What's Happening Close To Home

Christmas in July Toy Drive - Throughout July, Community Partners will be collecting gently used toys, books and games. (No stuffed animals, please). They will be distributed to needy families in Dearborn, Decatur, Jefferson, Ohio, Ripley & Switzerland Counties at Christmas. Jefferson Co. drop locations include all Jefferson Co. Trail of Tears Program - Fri. July 16th at 4pm at the Madison-Jefferson Co. Public Library. Rick Rhodes will present information on the Cherokee Native Americans and their move west. This program is free and open to the public.

Opus 113 Concert - Fri. July 16th at 7pm at Trinity United Methodist Church across from the Broadway Fountain. Featured artists will be Andy Jennings on piano and Hannah Monroe on flute. This concert is free and open to the public.

2nd Annual Foodstock Project Concert presented by New Life Fellowship Church - July 16-18 at Cozy Acres Golf Complex. Many bands will be performing each night. Wristbands are $20 for the entire weekend or $10 per day. Proceeds will help feed an bring awareness to needy and hungry families in the area. For more information, call 812-801-1503.

Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge "Take A Kid Fishing Day" - Sat. July 17th. Registration begins at 7am. This event is open to children and an accompanying parent. No fishing licenses are needed when with a child 15 and under. For more information, call 812-273-0783 or visit www.bigoaks.org.

Turning Point Golf Scramble - Sun. July 18th at Spring Hills Golf Course. Sign in begins at noon, with tee off at 1pm. Cost is $50/person, and the scramble consists of 4 person teams. All proceeds benefit the Turning Point for Domestic Violence agency. For more information, call 812-584-0642.

18th Annual Walnut St. Fire Co. #4 Golf Scramble - Sun. July 18th beginning at 12:30pm at Sunrise Golf Course. Cost is $40 per person and includes green fee and tournament costs. The Trimble Co. Emergency Search Unit is accepting donations of equipment or monetary gifts. The unit helps find lost children, camping parties, or flood or storm victims. Donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to: Trimble Co. Emergency Search Unit, P.O. Box 304, Bedford, KY 40006.

The City of Madison Concert Band will be meeting on Tuesdays at 7pm in the Madison Senior Center on Main Street. The are looking for all musicians who play woodwind, brass, or percussion. For more information, contact Charles Schnabel at 701-3446 or Scott Davis at 599-8557.

Volunteers are needed at the Madison - Jefferson County Animal Shelter. Cash donations, puppy chow, paper towels, bleach, Dawn dishwashing liquid (without bleach) would also be helpful. The shelter is located at 2727 Hannah Drive in Madison Indiana. Operation hours are 12-5 pm Monday/Thursday/Friday, noon-4 pm on Saturday, noon-3 pm on Sunday, and closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
