Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:

WORX and WXGO hosted two students as a job shadows for two different periods. While the students spent most of their time shadowing traffic coordinator, Kelley Hoagland, they also spent time with each of the station personnel in different departments. The student participated as a job shadow as part of the Mayor’s Eagles program at Eggleston and is interested in a broadcast career. Student spent an hour each Wednesday after school at the WORX / WXGO studios.

Host/Sponsor Of Activity: Jefferson County IN 8th Grade Reality Store at the Madison National Guard Armory. Sponsored by Madison Consolidated Schools, Southwestern Schools, Prince Of Peace Schools, and Boy Scouts Of America.

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:

WORX and WXGO promoted and participated in the Jefferson Co. Reality Store for 8th grade students of Madison, Southwestern and Shawe Schools. The program hosted by the Boy Scouts of America is a program in which students are given careers based on testing and grades. The jobs each have incomes and expenses. WORX / WXGO runs the communications booth. WORX / WXGO Staff members talk with students about life expenses and job expectations. WORX/WXGO staff discussed career opportunities in broadcast.

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:

DCBi GM William C. Potter and WORX/WXGO Operations Manager Tim Torrance participated in the webinar presentation from the Indiana Broadcasters Association and law firm Davis-Wright-Tremaine, LLP. The webinar was entitled “Navigating the FCC’s Equal Employment Opportunity Rules”. The session offered a primer on the FCC’s EEO rules, including the outreach for the opeing of jobs at radio and TV stations.

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:

WORX and WXGO promoted and participated in the 2010 Career Fair at the Trimble County Middle School on May 20, 2010. Groups of 6th and 7th grade middle school students met with career representatives to listen to what workers do in their career field, what kind of training and education is needed and the opportunities that exist in their field. WORX/WXGO staff member Tim Torrance discussed career opportunities in broadcast.

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:

DCBroadcasting Companies (including WORX and WXGO) VP/GM William C. Potter attended the IBA Job Fair Saturday October 16, 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mr. Potter has the say in the hiring of all employees of DCBroadcasting, Inc. including WORX and WXGO. In addition to having a booth at the job fair, many applications were accepted and are held on file. WORX and WXGO did not have any ob opportunites at the time of the job fair, but we did accept applications. WORX and WXGO each aired 27 sixty-second announcements on each station promoting the job fair and encouraging participation by job seekers and those interested in broadcast careers.

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:

WORX FM and WXGO AM aired a total of 75 PSA’s on each station…Public Service Announcements offering information about the Indiana Broadcasters Association Scholarship Program. The PSA’s encouraged high school and college students to apply for the general IBA scholarship and the Minority Scholarship. Scholarships were made available to the public at the WORX FM and WXGO AM studios. WORX and WXGO also made a financial contribution the Indiana Broadcasters Foundation for the scholarship program.

The series is held monthly and features speakers mostly from WorkOne and address issues of employment with focus on equality and workforce development.

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:

WORX and WXGO gave tours to pre-school students in the Headstart program. Broadcast jobs were described. The kids spent time in the studio and offices and interacted with all staff members. WORX/WXGO discussed career opportunities in broadcast in radio and the importance of learning.

WORX and WXGO hosted a college student as a job shadow on March 2, 2011. The student is attending Ivy Tech Community College with an interest in broadcast. She was given a wide range of exposure to many aspects of the radio broadcast industry. She worked in each of the departments. She was shown necessary skills needed for broadcast career opportunities.
